Early Service Retirement

Members who meet eligibility requirements may apply for Early Service Retirement and receive a reduced pension benefit. Early Service Retirement is available to the following members:

• Group I, Tier A & Tier B: Employee and Teacher members hired prior to July 1, 2011
• Group I, Tier C: Employee and Teacher members hired on or after July 1, 2011
• Group II, Tier C: Police and Fire members hired on or after July 1, 2011

NOTE: Group II Tier A & Tier B members hired prior to July 1, 2011, are not eligible for Early Service Retirement.

Prearrangement prohibited

The Internal Revenue Code provides that a member who has not attained normal retirement age may not apply for an early retirement if he or she has a prearrangement, whether in writing or orally, to return to employment with any NHRS participating employer.
