My Account Signups Back Online; Security Enhancements Added

New users will have a two-step process to register for online access to personal information

CONCORD, NHMy Account, the secure online portal for New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, the retirement system) members and retirees, is now available for new account creation following a security upgrade.

While the previous security procedures met industry standards, NHRS has added another layer of security for My Account to further protect against any attempts to fraudulently access member information. New users will have a two-step registration process to set up new accounts:

Step 1: Prior to setting up an account, members and retirees must request a PIN through My Account. A unique, case-sensitive, six-digit PIN will be mailed to the home address the retirement system has on file within one business day of the request. Please allow 5-7 days for the PIN to arrive. Note: If you recently changed your address with NHRS the PIN process may be delayed.

Step 2: Once you have received your PIN, you will go back to My Account to enter the PIN and the requested personal information needed to create your account. The PIN expires after 15 days.

While the new PIN process does not affect anyone who currently has an account, NHRS has also added a reCAPTCHA tool for logging into My Account that all users will encounter. reCAPTCHA protects websites from spam and abuse. It uses an advanced risk analysis engine and adaptive CAPTCHAs to keep automated software from engaging in unauthorized activities on a website.

NHRS understands that this new account creation process adds time; however, online crime – most recently the Equifax data breach that affected 143 million Americans – is a global issue. This security upgrade is consistent with the retirement system’s mission to protect the integrity of member and retiree information. NHRS has been and will continue to work to strengthen the security of internal and external systems and proactively protect against fraudulent activity.

My Account provides members with 24/7 access to individual information such as account summaries and balances, beneficiary designations, contact information, and Member Annual Statements. Retirees have access to monthly earnings statements, beneficiary designations, contact information, direct deposit status, and federal withholding information.
