DRS Employment Type for Teachers

May 31, 2024

Effective immediately, school employers should begin reporting all members in the Teacher category with an employment type of Full Time 10 (FT10).

The option to report teachers as Full Time 12 (FT12) has been eliminated in order to simplify reporting and improve the way NHRS tracks service credit. This change will not affect service accruals and benefit calculation for members in the Teacher category who work for 12 months a year, such as administrators.

Employers who report members in the Teacher category via file upload will need to adjust their reporting file to change anyone being reported with an employment type of FT12 to FT10.

Employers who report members in the Teacher category via web entry should click on each pay period in their scheduled batch and change the employment type from FT12 to FT10.

An exception will occur if a teacher is reported as FT12, which is no longer an available employment type. The exception will say, “The value FT12 is not a valid value for the employment type.”

To clear this exception, click on the member record and under Employment Information, click on the drop-down menu next to Employment Type and choose Full Time 10.
