CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS, the retirement system) has developed online validation tools to enable employers to determine the vested status of members as of December 31, 2011.
In 2011, the Legislature made a number of changes to the retirement system statute, including changes to the definition of Earnable Compensation that impact employer reporting. Most of these changes involve members who were not vested prior to January 1, 2012.
Prior to the creation of these tools, employers had to contact NHRS to determine the vested status of members.
The validators are located on NHRS’ secure employer reporting website (ERS). Employers are now able to key in a Social Security number (SSN) to verify whether a member was in vested status on or before December 31, 2011. Employers are also able to upload a text (.txt) file to validate a batch of Social Security numbers.
When employers log onto the ERS website, they will see links to the individual and batch validation tools in the menu on the left side of the page.
To check a single SSN, an employer would open the appropriate validator, enter the SSN in the text box, and hit “Search.” The validator will display whether the SSN belongs to an NHRS member who was in vested status on or before December 31, 2011.
To check multiple SSNs, an employer would create a text (.txt) file consisting of all the SSNs being checked. The employer would hit “Browse” to upload the file and then hit “Search” to run it. A file will be created that lists the SSNs entered and states which SSNs match an NHRS member who was in vested status on or before December 31, 2011.
Employers with additional questions concerning the vested status of a member (or members) may call Accounting at (603) 410- 3683.
Employers who have trouble using the validator may call Employer Services at (603) 410-3674.
