HB 282 Benefit Updates: NHRS Completes Next Phase of Legislative Implementation

The New Hampshire Retirement System (NHRS) has completed the next phase of implementing benefit changes for eligible Group II Tier B members under House Bill 282 (HB 282). This phase established the new Group II Tier B+ Plan, including the Tier B+ eligibility criteria and revised associated benefit calculations. It also expanded self-service tools and information for eligible members to better support retirement planning. 

What This Means for Members: 

Note: NHRS notifies employers when Group II Tier B members reach their Tier B+ eligibility date, for Earnable Compensation reporting purposes.

RETIREMENT BENEFIT UPDATE FOR RECENT RETIREES 

Group II members eligible for Tier B+ who retired between July 2025 and April 2026 will have their retirement benefits recalculated retroactively, with updated payments beginning in May 2026. 

• Retroactive Payment Clarification: Members whose benefits are recalculated retroactively will receive a one-time adjustment in their May benefit payment, reflecting the difference between their previous benefit amount and their recalculated benefit for the period prior to May 2026.  

NHRS will provide updates as additional HB 282-related programming changes are completed.
